Post for free with applications allows you to post your rental listings in select locations for free if you have Zillow rental applications enabled on your listing. See below for some common FAQs.
Which properties are eligible? How long can I keep my listing live for free?
All Zillow Rental Manager properties listed in Alaska, Arkansas, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, South Dakota, and West Virginia are eligible to post for free with applications. All you need to do is simply select Yes to Receive Zillow applications? at the bottom of your edit listing page, and then activate your listing.
Paid listings will renew automatically on a weekly basis and free listings will stay active for 30 days, which you can renew if you need more time. Once you have found a tenant, you should deactivate your listing.

Do I need to keep applications enabled on my listing?
Yes, when you post for free with applications, you agree to accept Zillow Rental applications from renters who apply and to keep applications enabled while your listing is active.
Do I still get to select which renter I would like to be my tenant?
Yes. As the landlord, you are responsible for choosing the tenant that will be living at your property. Zillow does not make any decisions in regards to the application, or if a renter is qualified to rent a home.
Do I have to accept an application from Zillow to be eligible?
Ultimately, you decide which renters you choose to rent your property. By using Zillow applications, you agree to not require renters who submit a Zillow application to complete and pay for another application process.
Will every renter inquiry have an application with it?
Most likely not, but it depends. Renters have multiple ways to say they're interested in a rental, including asking a question or requesting a tour directly through your listing.
You can direct any interested renter to click Apply now on your Zillow listing to apply. Alternatively, there are two ways you can invite interested renters to apply:
- Send application link allows you to specify a particular renter’s email and directly send an application. If you send a link, but the renter has not submitted the application yet, their invite will appear here.
- Copy a link allows you to paste and share the application link with any renters on any platform you wish. When the renter submits an application, it will appear in your dashboard.
They can then fill out the forms, pay the fee, and all of the reports can be sent to you within a matter of minutes.
Do all my listings have to have Zillow applications?
No. You can decide this on a listing by listing basis. Any listing you decide to enable applications for, in an eligible state*, will be free.
If I enable applications, do I also need to use the Zillow lease or rent payments feature?
No. You can choose to use our Zillow lease feature, or rent payments feature, but it is not required to do so.

Can I shut it off if I no longer want to use Zillow applications?
Yes. You can disable applications at any time.
I’ve already paid to list. Can I switch to free with applications?
Yes. To do this, deactivate your listing in your Zillow Rental Manager so it does not renew again. You can then reactivate your listing with Applications enabled at no charge.
I activated my listing with applications, but I was still charged.
That doesn’t sound right! Make sure that your listing is posted where you are eligible to post free with applications*, if it is, you can reach out to our team for assistance at firstname.lastname@example.org.
