Yes, a claim can be submitted if a renter is occupying a unit, but please note that doing so will cancel your policy effective on the date you file your claim. This is because only one claim can be filed under each policy. In some cases, you’ll need to submit a claim when the renter is occupying the unit because you only have 120 days to file a claim after the policy ends or is canceled. Even if the renter is still occupying the unit, you’ll need to inspect the unit within 14 calendar days from the end of the coverage period.
